Home-Grown Software passes Microsoft, Oracle Product Tests

Sunstar Cebu, Thursday July 19, 2007

PRIME Software 2006i version, developed by Cebu-based Primary Software Development Corp., has passed two international software tests. Last June 15, the 2006i, which was designed to work consistently on both LAN/Internet networks, passed the “Microsoft platform test for ISV Solutions” on Windows Clients and SQL Server 2005, tagged as product identification number 0702094589.

Testing was conducted independently by VeriTest (veritest.com) of Lion-bridge Technologies, a leading testing service provider officially contracted by Microsoft to test software developed by independent software vendors (ISV). The test is one of the requirements to become a Microsoft Certified ISV Partner.

On Oct. 31, 2006, the 2006i passed Oracle’s Linux Enterprise Application Porting Center Program test and was certified “Red Hat Ready” by Oracle. The test is also one of the requirements to become an Oracle ISV Partner.

Better quality

The development shows that Cebusoft, a Cebu-based association of software developers —of which Primary Software is a member— is successful in its efforts to improve the quality of homegrown software. The general impression that locally made software is of poor quality or inferior will be a thing of the past. Now, local software quality can be at par with international software counterparts.

Cebu-based small and medium enterprises can help the local software development industry grow by patronizing software developed by Cebu-based developers instead of limiting themselves to foreign brands.Home-grown software is not only affordable but also enables users to obtain customization and prompt after-sales service.
Internet(web)-Enabling Client/Server Applications

"The world is suddenly inside the LAN."

Mike Jurado
One Internet Day, Cebu City
September 20, 2006

Client/Server architected Prime Software is now entering its 3rd wave of software code changes…this time for a global reason – TO SIMPLY MAKE THE INTERNET NETWORK PART OF ITS LAN ENVIRONMENT. A reverse mental state of sort but with such a simple and powerful statement, the application’s possibilities for use, expounds a thousand fold.

Let’s trace history.

Over the years (1995 until Now), Web-based (WB) or browser-based or thin client applications continued growth has been phenomenal and seems to be replacing Client/Server (CS) or thick client applications mainly because CS thrives only in LAN’s and is VERY VERY SLOW if made to run over low bandwidth Internet networks. Web-based is simply THIN and is the FASTEST over the Internet. The lines were drawn, for LAN, Client/Server is King and for Internet, WB reigns. WB can be fast over the LAN but CS can never be fast over Internet.

So many legacy CS applications that needed to work over the Internet had to be completely rewritten in WB – the death of CS seems to be in the offing, it seems. On the other hand, if one tries to use any finished WB applications over the usual LAN environment, it seems to show a lot of shortfall in features - the rich features and flexibility available in CS are lost in translation and the workarounds are unwieldy. WB conquest have shown chinks in its armor and migrating to WB has become a questionable path for us die-hard Client/Server practitioners. We had take a second look at CS and do something about it – TO MAKE CS WORK OVER THE INTERNET BECAME THE BATTLE CRY.

WB applications do one thing effectively – pushes/pulls data over the internet more effectively. Why don’t we find a way to do that with CS applications too. That seems to be a feasible project to undertake...CS behaving like WB in its internet communications skills…our brains focused on this area and rewrote the codes from scratch. And while at it, optimized and improved on its features.

Somehow, our experience in writing our own Internet-enabled, multi-player game engine –“3DVerve/Critical Damage”, 2004’s E-Services Best Product – Education Category, helped in “Internet communication” design research between client and server.

Also, our years of experiences with different types of back end database engines – Advantage, DB2, Sybase, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc. placed us in a better position to select, test, and redesign our database access methods in such a mixed LAN/INTERNET database environments.

Software modular rewrites started from standard system, accounting, inventory, POS/Sales modules. Today, Customer 1 in the transportation industry has been fully deployed on 15-User licensed with 4 active “real time” clients (and increasing) via the Internet. A second Customer, a chain of coffee shops, is now rolling out to 2 of their planned 10 sites that will eventually be connected via Internet to their central database server. A third customer, a chain of hardware store, in current implementation, will be connecting his 4 retail/wholesale store to his HO Data Server “live” via DSL. A 4th customer, a shipping company, in current implementation, will be selling passage/freight/logistic services “live” through DSL connected outlets within Cebu / Visayas areas. All these would have “business opportunities lost” had we not challenged ourselves to incorporate “the Internet” into the LAN.

Today in 2006, our new Client/Server re-architected applications are “I”nternet enabled and effectively “plug and plays” on both LAN and INTERNET networks. It remains flexibly feature rich, even touch screen ready, with data on demand querying, built-in ‘save to template’ report writing, …

The world is suddenly inside the LAN.

Connectivity…Speed…Prime Software…So much possibilities can now be done.

Software Developer to Launch New Application

Sunstar Cebu, Thursday, September 14, 2006

A local software company will introduce to Cebu its newest product, designed to answer the needs of businesses in transportation, trading and retail.

Primary Software Development Corporation (PSDC) will launch on Sept. 20 its Prime Software 2006i Series, “a fully integrated business application software.”

The launching will be held at Rajah Hotel, Cebu City during the One Internet Day event organized by Digital Filipino, said PSDC operations and implementation supervisor Cocoy Jurado. “The technology is a total transformation of business processes because the movement of information is in real time,” Jurado said.

Flexibility

He said businesses in transportation, trading and retail “want a high degree of flexibility in reporting and they want answers to their questions at the end of the day.” According to a statement furnished to Sun.Star Cebu, PSDC said the 2006i Series has a “Plug and Play” Internet-ready, bandwidth-optimized server application for local access network (LAN).

Bandwidth usage is kept to a minimum so clients need not convert data to a Web-based application. The software includes “flexible and powerful searching and sorting options,” where users need not scroll through a huge list of data to find a particular piece of information.

It also comes with customizable report system, which allows specification of information to include, values to calculate and how to sort data even without programming. The 2006 iSeries works on multiple backend database like Oracle, PostgreSQL, Sybase, DB2 and MSSQL, to ensure flexibility on the customer’s requirements.

Jurado did not disclose the price of the software, saying customers are “guaranteed to get their money’s worth.” “We (walk) our clients (through) for two to three months to make sure the technology is put to good use,” Jurado said. (MMM)
